Sales doubled. Profit didn’t.
Emerald Exteriors is a 16-year-old roofing company in Omaha. This is how it went from running on instinct to running on a plan.

2024Storm season
In 2024, a heavy storm season doubled Emerald’s sales, but the bank account didn’t keep up. Bill O’Connor, the owner, had always run on instinct, and it had served him well until then. So he brought me in to get a handle on things.

2025The rebuild
Lead to paid.
AccuLynx got job statuses that mean something, and automations that move each job along without anyone chasing it.
The books.
Emerald’s books were organized for a tax return. We rebuilt them around how the company actually spends.
Bills and leakage.
Checking every bill turned up a $7,500 materials invoice that had been billed twice, and paid.
Overhead.
The new numbers showed the office had grown faster than the work. Bill cut some overhead and put the rest to better use.
Goals.
I took Bill’s goals for the year and turned them into the work the team did week to week.
None of it was unique to Emerald. That’s why the inspection looks at the same seven areas in every company.

TodayOn a plan
Stable, and ready for the next storm. A formal budget and projections got Emerald its SBA loan, which funded the move into retail and the reorganization into Emerald Exteriors.
I stayed on as Emerald’s integrator until it ran well enough not to need one full time. I worked myself out of a full-time job. That’s the goal for your company too.
Built for Emerald, out of necessity.
Once I got to know Emerald’s business, I built Safewild Payables. It stitches Emerald’s existing systems together at little cost, and saves the team a tremendous amount of time. Once I know your business, this is the kind of thing I’ll build for you.
Emerald enthusiasts
The metric I think matters most isn’t on the P&L. I call them Emerald enthusiasts: customers happy enough to tell the world. We didn’t add a single new tool to get more of them. They came from running a smoother operation.
Next time sales double, make sure profit does too.
